In addition to our regular Newfoundland Power, Collier’s International & Outside Line Construction work, 1620 Electrical Workers and its members were a vital part the Maritime Link Project (now complete) and the Lower Churchill Project (near completion), and it is because of Local 1620 members that we now have an electrical industry Steller record of safety and mega project success. Since Local 1620 was chartered in 1949, health and safety has always been, and remains, the number one priority for our members.
1620 is honored to say that our members are 100% committed to safety. Certainly, with any job there are challenges, but our members are very well trained and are aware of the risks. Knowing what the risks are better enables them to deal with them. There is no job more important than the safety of workers, our members, and the general public.
1620 Electrical Workers provides training for its members so that they can always be ‘work ready’. We have partnered with safety experts, Roger’s Enterprises Ltd. to provide our members with quality, competency-based Health and Safety training in a variety of subject areas.
Workplace health & safety is very important for each and every employee in the industry. All workers desire to work in a safe and protected atmosphere so they can return home to their families each day. Health and safety is the key factor for all industries, to promote the wellness of both employees and employers. It is a duty and moral responsibility of employers to look after the employee’s protection.
In addition to the health benefits 1620 members receive through their health and welfare plans with employers and the Benefit Plan Administrators (BPA), 1620 members can avail of many services through their Employee and Family Assistance Programs.
