Labour Day will be celebrated differently this year due to COVID-19, but on this day, Local 1620 would like to acknowledge and celebrate your successes.
Representing members working with our employer partners; Newfoundland Power, Colliers International and Outside Construction, including the Lower Churchill Project is an honour.
I am very proud of how our membership has responded to the challenges presented by this pandemic. Many of you were required, rose to the occasion, and made Local 1620 proud.
Everything you have today is because your Union fought hard for it for many years, and now you and your family have a quality of life that always puts safety first. Labour Day gives us an opportunity to honour our members, past and present, their accomplishments, as well as their sacrifices and struggles. Working conditions, social benefits, such as the Canada Pension Plan and Workers’ Compensation, are the result of the persistence, perseverance and the struggles of the working class.
While we gather this long weekend for a well-deserved break with family and friends, let us also mark this Labour Day by committing to making our Local Union even stronger. We must continue to fight for an always improving and safer work environment; fight to keep our rights and be respected for the great work we offer our employers.
From field to field, and desk to desk, your hard work is what makes our Union the best!
On behalf of Local 1620, I personally thank you, our Sisters and Brothers of past and present, for your hard work and dedication.
HAPPY LABOUR DAY EVERYONE!!
