Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Sunday, April 28th is our National Day of Mourning. IBEW Local Union 1620 pays respects and remembers the thousands of workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness because of work-related incidents. Let’s not forget the workers who witnessed these incidents and acknowledge the co-worker first aiders, and all so important first responders.
Our hearts are with the many families and friends who have been deeply affected by these tragedies. Every worker has the right to return home safely at the end of each work day, a principle the IBEW was founded on back in 1891. We must continue to advocate for better safety and never let our guard down.
Please see the attached schedule of events that the Canadian Labour Congress are hosting around the province. To honor the lost, Local 1620 will be participating and laying a wreath at the St. John’s event.
I ask all our Sisters and Brothers to join me to reflect and let’s work together to make our work lives safer.
Warm Fraternal Regards,
